She was born into a close-knit family, surrounded by five sisters and a brother, forging deep connections that would shape her life. Throughout her formative years, Gayle’s vibrant personality began to shine, marked by an unmistakable blend of unconditional love, joy, sarcasm, and sass that endeared her to all who knew her. In February 1960, Gayle’s life took a beautiful turn when she met Bill Groft, and they exchanged vows in their hometown of Kittanning. The young couple quickly welcomed two daughters, Tracy Hudson and Patricia Sapp, into their lives. As their family blossomed, Bill and Gayle decided to make Butler their home, creating a haven where love and laughter echoed through the halls.

The Groft family thrived in Butler, building a life filled with cherished memories. Gayle’s infectious spirit illuminated the household, creating an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie. A beloved younger brother, William Mohney, along with numerous nieces and nephews, fondly remember the incredible strength, loyalty, and love that defined Gayle’s role as sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Celebration of Life
Friends of Barbara Gayle Groft are invited to pay their respects at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler. Visitation hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday. A blessing service, officiated by Deacon Mitch Natali, will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the BC3 Education Foundation, P.O. Box 1203, Butler, PA 16003-1203.
