Her passing at the age of 91 marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by her family and community. Lillian’s life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Southern, and is survived by her loving children and their families. Her daughters, SuzAnne, Traci Lynn, and sons Jackie Charles, Mark Alan, and Christopher Jay, along with their spouses, mourn the loss of a mother who dedicated her later years to showering them with love and support. Lillian’s warmth extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating a tight-knit family bond that will endure beyond her physical presence.
Community Involvement and Achievements
Lillian’s contributions to the Shinnston community were numerous and impactful. As the President of the Shinnston High School Class of 1950 and a proud Drum Majorette, she reveled in the annual Alumni Weekends. Her involvement in civic groups such as the Quota Club of Shinnston, the Shinnston Spartan Boosters, and the Shinnston Woman’s Club showcased her commitment to community service. Her deep faith in Jesus led her to be an active member of both Coon’s Run Baptist Church and Jewel City Church, where she served on the Food Committee. Lillian also played a vital role in preparing menus for Shinnston Schools, emphasizing her dedication to both faith and community. Lillian’s life was not without challenges. She faced both the Shinnston Tornado and battled breast cancer with unwavering strength. Her resilience and determination were evident as she not only survived but thrived, never missing an opportunity to share precious moments with her children and grandchildren.
The Culinary Legacy of Love
Beyond her community involvement, Lillian will be fondly remembered for her culinary prowess. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, and her famous potato salad was a staple at family gatherings. The secret ingredient in all her dishes was unmistakable – love, generously poured into every recipe. The family expresses gratitude to Drs. A poignant funeral service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Kevin Nuzum and Pastor Robert Shingleton.
