Born as Jeanne Marie Rendu on September 9, 1786, she emerged as a guiding light, demonstrating unparalleled dedication to the service of those in need. At the tender age of 10, Jeanne Marie Rendu, the eldest of four siblings, faced the profound loss of her father.

The tragedy deepened less than two months later with the passing of their youngest sibling, a mere four months old.  In the wake of these heartbreaking events, Jeanne’s mother, concerned about her eldest daughter’s education, made the decision to send her to a boarding school run by the Ursuline Sisters. It was during this period that Jeanne’s path intersected with the Daughters of Charity. Volunteering her time at a local hospital run by the Daughters of Charity, Jeanne found a profound sense of purpose and discovered her vocation of serving those in need. At the young age of 16, she embraced this calling and entered the Daughters of Charity.

Despite facing challenges related to her health, Jeanne’s journey led her to Mouffetard, one of the poorest and most destitute areas of Paris, where she completed her formation. This marked the beginning of a lifetime dedicated to serving the marginalized and vulnerable. bIn Mouffetard, Sister Rosalie Rendu devoted her life to a multitude of charitable works. Her tireless efforts encompassed nursing and healthcare, childcare, aged care, food banks, pharmacies, and various other avenues of support for those in need.

Sister Rosalie became a beacon of hope, extending her benevolent hand to uplift the lives of the less fortunate. Her advocacy work was not limited to immediate relief but also included mentoring the youth, emphasizing the importance of education and empowerment. Today, on the Feast Day of Blessed Sister Rosalie Rendu, the Society remains steadfast in its commitment to advocacy and extending a helping hand to those in need.
