A Life of Service and Dedication
Born in Punxsutawney, PA, Gail was the daughter of Ray and Helen Oliver. She pursued her passion for helping others by graduating from the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. Throughout her career, Gail served in various healthcare roles, including at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick County Public Schools, and the Frederick County Health Department. However, it was her role as an athletic trainer at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School where she made a significant impact. Gail’s dedication to ensuring the safety of student athletes led her to advocate for the importance of having a paid athletic trainer at all high school sporting events in Frederick County. Her efforts were recognized when she was inducted into the Alvin G. Quinn Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
Passions and Hobbies
Outside of her professional life, Gail had a deep love for lighthouses and shells, which she enjoyed collecting during her visits to the beach. Her passion for lighthouses extended to intricate cross-stitches, and she was an active member of the U.S. and Outer Banks Lighthouse Societies. Together with her husband, Gene, Gail also participated in trips to clean Fresnel lenses, combining her love for travel with her commitment to preserving maritime history. Always with a camera around her neck, Gail captured precious moments of nature and her family, documenting the joy and laughter shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Additionally, she was a devoted fan of Pitt, Penn State, and Steelers football, supporting her teams with unwavering enthusiasm.
Cherished Family
Gail is survived by her children: Elaine Berry (Ron Cekovich), Dave Rolls (Niccole), Emily Kephart (Jerry), and Ellen Rollman (Arthur). She is also survived by her sister, Judy Sisk, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense joy into her life. A special mention is made of her nephew, Randy Rolls, who lived nearby and held a special place in her heart.
Fond Memories
Gail was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene “Gene” Rolls, her parents, Ray and Helen Oliver, and her brother, Gordon “Skeeter” Oliver. While her physical presence may be gone, Gail’s legacy of love, dedication, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Celebrating Gail’s Life
In honor of Gail Rolls, the family will receive friends on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Little’s Funeral Home in Littlestown, PA. A short funeral service will follow the visitation. While interment at Union Hill Cemetery in Rossiter, PA, will be private, the memories of Gail’s life and the impact she made will be cherished forever.
