Lois Ryman Obituary, Death- On February 2nd, 2024, Redfield, South Dakota, bid farewell to a beloved member of its community. Lois Jean (Allbee) Ryman, aged 90, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones at the Redfield Community Memorial Hospital. Her life was a testament to hard work, love, and devotion to family and community. Lois was born on December 25th, 1933, on the Allbee family ranch in Norbeck, South Dakota. She was the 9th of 12 children born to Nellie Opal Penfield and Everett Allbee. Growing up on the ranch, Lois developed a strong work ethic from a young age. Milking cows, driving tractors, and helping with chores were all part of her daily routine. However, amidst the hard work, she found joy in Friday and Saturday nights reserved for roller skating and square dancing.
A Lifetime of Love: Marriage and Family
On July 22nd, 1954, Lois married the love of her life, Meryl M. Ryman Sr., in Tolstoy, South Dakota. Their journey together led them to Denver, Colorado, where Meryl served in the U.S. Air Force until 1958. In 1958, they settled in Redfield, where Meryl worked as a mechanic and truck driver, and Lois dedicated herself to their growing family of five children – four boys and one girl. The Rymans’ lives were marked by a deep commitment to providing a good life for their children. They imparted valuable life skills, created lasting memories through camping and fishing trips, and traveled to various wrestling and boxing tournaments to support their kids. Family holidays were cherished occasions, celebrated together with love and laughter.
A Resilient Spirit: Life After Loss
In August 1989, the Rymans faced the heartbreak of Meryl’s passing. However, Lois demonstrated incredible resilience. She remained in Redfield, taking on a job as a waitress at Leo’s Good Food. Known for her warm smile, Lois greeted everyone with kindness. Her festive spirit shone through as she donned corresponding earrings and outfits for each holiday, making every occasion special for those around her. Lois leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by her children: Jeanne Johnson, Corey (Shannon) Ryman, and Randy Ryman; grandchildren Brenda Johnson, McKenzie (Zak) Olson, Skylor Ryman, 8 step-grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Edward Allbee, sister Shirley (Allbee) Ketterling, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Meryl M. Ryman Sr., sons Meryl M. Ryman Jr. and Mickey Ryman, parents, 3 brothers, and 6 sisters.

Family-hosted services will be held on July 22nd, 2024, commemorating what would have been Lois and Meryl’s 70th Anniversary. This occasion will serve as a beautiful reunion, bringing together Lois and Meryl in eternity, surrounded by the love and memories they created throughout their remarkable journey together.
