Vera Casey Obituary, In Loving Memory of Veronica F. “Vera” Casey

Vera Casey Obituary, Death- The world has lost a remarkable woman, Veronica F. “Vera” Casey, at the age of 93. Born in Lackafinna, Cong, Co. Mayo, Ireland, Vera made her mark as a devoted wife, loving mother, and successful entrepreneur. Her journey began in Ireland and spanned across continents, leaving an indelible impact on the communities she touched.

A Journey Across Oceans

Vera, the third oldest of her siblings, faced early responsibilities, leaving school at 13 to care for her family after her mother’s sudden passing. In 1949, she embarked on a journey to London in pursuit of work, later marrying her childhood sweetheart, Tom Casey, on St. Patrick’s Day in 1952. The couple settled in Cleveland in 1956, where they raised their four children, Maureen, Patricia, Tom, and Kathleen.

From Beauty Salons to Irish Imports

Vera’s entrepreneurial spirit flourished as the former owner of multiple beauty salons in Lakewood, Rocky River, and Galway, Ireland. Not content with just hairstyling, she expanded her business to include Casey’s Irish Imports, Inc. in Rocky River, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to thrive today under the guidance of her daughters, Maureen and Kathleen.

A Pillar of the Community

Vera’s impact extended beyond business. A dedicated member of the West Side Irish American Club, Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, and The Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland, she was deeply involved in parish life. From her mission circle at St. Mark to founding St. Clarence Church and active participation in the St. Christopher Rosary Group, Vera’s commitment to community and faith was unwavering.

Accolades and Awards

Vera’s contributions did not go unnoticed. In 2012, she was honored as the Irish Mother of the Year by the Cleveland United Irish Societies, and in 2016, her establishment, Casey’s Irish Imports, received the Celtic Warrior Award for outstanding merchant and member. Her dedication to business excellence was further recognized with the Quality Business Award from the Rocky River Chamber of Commerce in 2018.

A Woman of Faith and Family

Throughout her life, Vera attributed her success to the love and support of her family and friends, coupled with her unwavering faith in God. She cherished the advice her father gave her before leaving Ireland in 1949, urging her to stay close to Jesus and Mary.

A Final Farewell

Vera’s life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass at St. Angela Merici Church on February 16, where friends and family will gather to remember and honor this extraordinary woman. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Little Brothers and Sisters of the Eucharist or the Monastery of the Poor Clares would be appreciated, reflecting Vera’s compassionate spirit.

As we bid farewell to Veronica F. “Vera” Casey, we remember a life well-lived—a life marked by love, resilience, and an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.
