In the seventh grade, Melvin met the love of his life, Dolores Ann (Berendzen) Schulte. Their bond grew stronger over the years, culminating in marriage on August 29, 1959, in Mary’s Home, Missouri. For over 64 years, Melvin and Dolores shared a remarkable partnership filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Family was the cornerstone of Melvin’s life, and spending time with his loved ones brought him immeasurable joy and fulfillment.

His three grandsons, Nicholas (Kerry) Schulte of Boulder, Colorado; Brett (Emily) Schulte of Austin, Texas; and Alexander (Polly) Schulte of Oceanside, California, along with his six great-grandchildren, were a constant source of pride and joy for Melvin.
