A funeral service honoring Glenn’s life will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 11:00 am at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Belle Fourche. Prior to the service, a visitation period will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 14, at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Glenn’s ashes will be spread on the family ranch, a place that held immense significance in his heart.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are graciously accepted for the United Church of Christ in Belle Fourche and the St. Onge Cemetery, reflecting Glenn’s dedication to his faith community and the preservation of his hometown’s heritage. Glenn Stephens was born on June 1, 1929, in Deadwood, to Thomas and Marvel Stephens. He spent his formative years on the Stephens ranch near St. Onge before the family relocated to Lead in 1935. Glenn graduated from Lead High School in 1947 and briefly attended Black Hills State Teachers College. In 1949, he returned to the family farm and embarked on a journey that would define his life’s purpose.

A Union of Love and Commitment

On July 22, 1949, Glenn married the love of his life, Dona Fae Twombley. Their union blessed them with five children: Mia, Randy, Devin, Marci, and Harlan. Glenn’s devotion to his family was unwavering, and his role as a loving husband and father brought him immeasurable joy and fulfillment. Glenn dedicated three decades of his life to the dairy business, selling milk to Black Hills Milk Producers for 30 years. His commitment to the industry extended beyond his own operations, as he served on the board of directors for 18 years. Additionally, Glenn was actively involved in the Dairy Herd Improvement Association and devoted 45 years to the St. Onge Fire Department, exemplifying his dedication to community service.

A member of the First Congregational UCC Church in Belle Fourche and the St. Onge Community Club, Glenn’s faith and community ties were integral aspects of his life. His contributions were recognized through accolades such as the Lawrence County Outstanding Young Farmer award in 1960 and the Lawrence County Conservation District Conservation Citizenship Award in 2021.

Glenn’s life was enriched by his passions, including farming, traveling, and woodworking. He and his father planted trees at Foothills Ranch, a testament to their shared love for the land. Glenn’s green thumb extended to gardening, where he once tended to a garden as expansive as his house.
