Joseph was born and raised in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn, NY, in 1929, to Sicilian immigrants. He was one of twelve siblings, growing up in a bustling and vibrant household filled with love and laughter. Joseph’s roots in New York shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of resilience and determination that would guide him throughout his life.

Service to Country

Joseph served his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. Stationed in Germany, Joseph dedicated himself to the service of his country, demonstrating bravery and valor in the face of adversity. His commitment to duty and sacrifice exemplified the true spirit of patriotism.

A Dedicated Career

After his military service, Joseph embarked on a successful career with Standard Brands, later known as Nabisco and Kraft Foods. He held the position of office manager in the Special Products Division, demonstrating his strong work ethic, professionalism, and dedication to his craft. Joseph’s contributions to the company were invaluable, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Passions and Pursuits

Outside of his professional life, Joseph was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants, cheering on his beloved teams with enthusiasm and passion. He also had a love for horse racing and enjoyed spending time playing cards with friends and family. Joseph was an active member of the Mount Olive Senior Citizens Club, cherishing the camaraderie and friendships he formed within the community.

Cherished Family Connections

Joseph’s greatest joy in life was his family. He shared a deep and abiding love with his beloved wife, Henrietta, and together they raised their son, Joseph, in Budd Lake, NJ. In 2021, they relocated to the NJ Veterans Memorial Home at Menlo Park, where they continued to cherish their time together. Joseph remained close with his siblings, Beatrice, Mary, and Richard, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews, cherishing the bonds of family and the memories they shared.

Farewell and Remembrance

As Edison comes together to honor the memory of Joseph Blondo, his legacy of love, service, and dedication will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 4-7 PM at the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals in South Plainfield, NJ. While entombment will be held privately at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, the memories of Joseph’s life and the impact he made will be cherished forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
