JoAnn Whitacre Obituary, Death- JoAnn Marie “Peachie” Whitacre, a beloved 76-year-old resident of Paw Paw, left this world on February 1, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at her residence. Born on April 8, 1947, in Cumberland, Md., JoAnn was the daughter of the late Clarence Edward Kerns and Hazel Marie Yost Kerns. Her early years were shaped by a close-knit family, and she cherished the values instilled by her parents. JoAnn’s professional journey led her to employment at VDO in Winchester, Va. Her commitment and dedication to her work mirrored her approach to life – with passion and a desire to contribute. Beyond her professional endeavors, she also became an integral part of the local community, leaving a positive impact on those around her.

A Loving Family Woman
Devoted to her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother, JoAnn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her love for her family was evident in every aspect of her being. Life brought JoAnn a second chance at love when she married Paul Shade. Together, they blended their families, creating a tapestry of love and support. JoAnn is survived by her sons, Gary Kerns of Berkley Springs, W.Va., and Brian Kerns of Winchester, along with stepchildren and grandchildren who became an integral part of her extended family. The community will gather to bid a final farewell to JoAnn on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Woodrow Union Church in Paw Paw, with Rev. Earl Travis officiating. Interment will follow at Woodrow Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, offering an opportunity for the community to come together in support.
